I can’t believe it’s taken so long for the penny to drop.

Jim Dear and Darling, from Lady and the Tramp, they are not as they seem.

For my whole childhood—and in fact, right up until a few weeks ago (omg)— I just thought their names really were: Jim Dear. And…Darling.

Didn’t think to question it.

Didn’t think…at all.

Until this darling blog of May rolled around and I learned the horrifying truth of it all.

I’d been duped.

Tricked into thinking one thing, when really another was true.

“Jim, Dear?”

“Yes, Darling?”

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Do you see what this really, truly means?

Darling has a different name. One that none of US know.

OMG.

Surely I’m not the only one who didn’t realise the characters had taken their names based on what Lady, their dog, hears.

Surely I’m not the only one who took a good portion of her life to figure out the shocking—but adorable—truth.

Oh, well.

Better late than never, I suppose.

Hmm, I think I actually have never seen this movie! Guess I’m in for a movie day with my kids, when they can sit longer than 5 minutes.

I do, I do! Right now my daughter loves dogs, so she’ll probably be riveted!

Our kids never really got into Lady and the Tramp – they were crazy about Fox and the Hound though – to the extent that I can still remember their damn names lol – Copper and Todd 🙂

I think Lady and the Tramp is probably a bit outdated, nowadays anyway. I loved it though, when I was a kid. 🙂
